Why Hot Alloy Chrome Wheels Impress the Girls
A set of hot alloy chrome wheels for your car will look great and impress the girls. What's the point of a hot car without some hot wheels, and alloy chrome is about as hot as you get. However, there is more to a good set of wheels than just looks, and the safety benefits they offer are the main reason why most people go to the expense of fitting them.
Here are some of the many advantages of purchasing and fitting alloy chrome wheels to your car:
1. Wheel Width
The wide tires of alloy wheels offer greater contact with the road, so they are safer when braking, particularly in wet road conditions. They are also less likely to skid or to get stuck in the snow. Cornering is significantly smoother and safer at higher speeds, because you have more tread in contact with the road, but that doesn't mean that you can ignore the condition of your tires.
You still have to remove all these little stones from the tread and check them for wear. The less tread, the less grip, and anybody that follows IndyCar or F1 knows the importance of grip in keeping your car on the road. A good set of wheels does that for you so long as you look after them. That's where one of the other advantages of alloy chrome wheels comes into play.
2. Benefits of Alloy Construction
They are constructed from a magnesium-aluminum alloy that offers tremendous strength. The chromed wheels are then electroplated with chromium for protection and looks. Going back to the alloy, your magnesium alloy wheels are very strong and provide you with more safety in the event of an impact. They also dissipate brake heat very rapidly - much faster than straight steel wheels - so your tires are less liable to get hot, and therefore softer, with the rapid wear that causes to the rubber.
In respect of safety, alloy wheels are about as good as you get, although the alloy itself looks a bit dull and will attract nobody - hence the bright shiny chromium.
3. Alloy Chrome Wheels
Chromium is a very shiny, but hard and durable metal that resists heat and humidity. They are resistant to corrosion and don't rust. Your wheels will therefore last longer, but there is a downside. If you fail to look after them: the chromium is an electroplated coating on top of the alloy, so you have one metal bonded onto another. Magnesium-aluminum alloy tends not to corrode as iron and steel do, but if moisture and oil gets under the chrome, it will bubble up and eventually lose adhesion and flake off.
If tended to properly, however, this is less likely to happen and they will look great and the girls will love them. Chrome wheels and rims are also part of the hip-hop bling culture, and offer you that bright shiny look that sets you apart from the rest. They really do look hot, but only if you look after them properly.
4. Alloy Chrome Wheel Maintenance
Any dirt and grease should be wiped off regularly with a soft cloth - never use an abrasive pad on chrome - and then given a good shine with a genuine professional chrome polish. Using the correct cleaner can prevent bubbling and flaking, and so can hand washing. Machine washing can be abrasive, particularly wheel brushes that are much rougher than you want them to be. Car wash wheel brushed can scratch the chrome and not only cause it to become less shiny, but also allow moisture to penetrate through and corrode the base metal. That leads to bubbling and eventually the chrome coating will flake off. Not good!
Make sure that your wheels are cool before cleaning them or you will create excessive uneven contraction due to the different heat characteristics of the base alloy and the chromium, and perhaps reduce the bond between the two different metals.
When you decide to fit a set of chrome wheels onto your car or hot-rod yourself, make sure that you have the proper bolts for them in terms of seating, diameter and thread, and that the PDC and centrebore are also correct. The wheel offset is also important, and if you don't understand these terms then ask for advice or have them fitted by a professional. However, most alloy wheels are available for specific car models, and these technicalities will already have been looked after.
Hot alloy chrome wheels have a lot more to offer other than being chick magnets, and it is important that you fully understand how to look after them and what exactly these other benefits are if you want to impress the girls. Chrome wheels can become a liability if they are neglected and the chrome starts to blister and peel away: then nobody will want to share your vehicle and you will be left alone or have to buy more.
